“Like normal, weather up here on Giggling Koyote Hill is crazy!”

** Weather breaks open.  Hike to crest with Minimum Survival Packs. Study bird nest on trail with 2 eggs broken open by wild critters to expose half-formed babies. Third egg still warm from Ma. Built a protective fortress around her last hope. Lady Bug Convention at the crest. Look down on Denver and Central Sewer mines (both beer & gold).

Golden’s the sun...Now shielded from me
Sadly it’s hidden... By a violent dark sea
City Folk Spirit... Would die on the run
But us Mountain Men take it...and make it “heap” fun!

When we hiked to the crest I got a viw of Denver and my sickness started. I feld like crying and crying then, but I didn’t.  It took a half an hour till I could even tell some body abot it. Finally I cryed and I felt vary better. I cryed for fifteen or twenty minets. The other Mt Men helped by giving me flowers and food. I would suggest to the Homesick person to make plenty of friends the first day. Also I would suggest anybody who thinks he might become homesick to bring a picture of your family. Maybe some body will invent special “Fizzies” that you dropin your canteen and get a big picture of yoru Mom and Pop!

Some time you might have to cook food without a fry pan. We take our knive and hammer it with our hand till it is open. Point the blade away.  Set the can in hot couls and cook till the juice boils. Eat with your washed knive.  We always eat them at noon because if we eat them at night we would gas up our sleeping bag and float way. I pity all the planes that passed by today!

***Two Advanced Mt Men, Muscle Back & Trail Blaster, proving that they are masters of all elementary camp procedures of Survival Techniques and Reasoning, were allowed to go up the Walt Whitman Trail, select a site with a magnificent view, and set up their own Minimum Survival Camp (Within holler distance of base camp.) Report to be submitted later.

Firemaking is a go-for-bust proposition; all-or-nothing. With proper preparation, use up all kindling; all 1-finger fuel – then pray. There comesa time when  you’ve done your best of building your kindling log cabin, striking and igniting, and feeding. From then on, the luck of your good medicine takes over.

WHY NOT?  Get into the habit of singing while you work at routine
jobs.  Uninhibitedly. Robustly. Other nations do it
naturally as a normal way of life. We Americans have
to re-learn what the pioneers knew. That’s where some
of the Folk Songs came from.
