About

Adventure Trails at Laughing Coyote Mountain was a Survival Skills camp run by the most enigmatic T.D. Lingo. It ran for only a few years in the late 1950's and early 1960's and I was fortunate to not only attend this camp in both summer AND winter, but to also have met and studied under the man whom I called simply 'Lingo.'

Lingo was a Folk Singer by trade and endeavored to write and discover more about the 'Dormant Brain.' If you want to learn more about that, you can do a Google search on him. This whole site is about the camp he ran which allowed him to grow his research. For all I know, we were his guinea pigs. All I remember was the way he taught us, guided us, and encouraged us to become men. Men, not by today's standards, but by standards written hundreds of years ago by men such as Jim Bridger, Thoreau and Socrates.

The camp was situated at the base of the majestic Hawk Cliff on the mountain which Lingo owned, Laughing Coyote Mountain. The young men who attended the camp learned campfire skills, cooking, hiking, and all manner of outdoor skills not the least of which was knowing which running stream to drink out of. But besides that, we learned to grow, to think, to reason and to read.

My two brothers and I learned a lot those few years before the state closed it because it didn't have running water. (Hmm a survival school with no running water? Who would have thought?) I hope to add to this the stories we all might remember, writings we may have and grow more into what we should be. Men, and more...Mountain Men.
